Nature in Art 2009

In September 2009, the whole of Year 7 visited the international wildlife collection at “Nature in Art” at Wallsworth Hall, Twigworth. Luckily the weather was kind enough for them to work, play and socialise outside in the sculpture and wildlife gardens.. They also took part in a workshop exploring image and text with an artist tutor.

Pupils were asked to comment on their experiences at “Nature in Art

I enjoyed looking around the museum and the gardens. I most enjoyed looking at the whale’s tail and the golden eagle. Many of the sculptures were made out of metal and recycled materials. Some of the paintings in the gallery were by a famous painter called Peter Scott. We all enjoyed playing in the gardens. It was one of the best days ever!

When we went to Nature in Art it was great to see what all the artists have done. We found out that the artist Peter Scott used to practise drawing animals on his notepaper when he was in meetings. He drew rhinos instead of making notes! When we went outside we saw a statue of a golden eagle (not real gold though) and a whale’s tail where we all had our picture taken. Inside, we did some drawings in our sketch books. There were shells or crystals we could draw or we could copy the sculptures. I liked drawing the otter best. It was a fun day out drawing and looking at the sculptures.

I really enjoyed the Nature in Art trip because there were lots of good paintings. I also liked it because I could get to know my new classmates. I enjoyed spending an hour drawing a shell because when you draw it you see all the interesting details. I loved the big whale tail.

At Nature in Art there was a fantastic gallery of pictures; my favourite was one of elephants which had good colours and detail. I will remember that picture.
I also enjoyed going to the gift shop where I bought a red glass pig for my mum, a turtle with a stretchy head and a little pink frog.

I have had a really good start at Maidenhill. The best thing was Nature in Art; all the year Sevens had a lovely time. We did lots of activities; my favourite was going round the garden and observing the sculptures. Thanks to all the staff who organised it.
