Moving onward and upward

Dear Mrs Wilson

Betsey, Eleanor and Charlotte here!

We wanted to pop in and see you, but didn't think it would be possible, given the circumstances :-(  ... so we're writing this instead.

The uncertain times which hit us all in March meant that our Year 13 was cut short and with unpredicted times ahead regarding our results, you could say we were all a little worried!   However, after putting in the hard work over the first year and a half, we are so pleased to be writing to tell you we are over the moon with the grades we achieved.  We also wanted to thank you and our amazing teachers for your guidance and support during our time at Maidenhill.

Firstly, the lovely Miss Betsey.

Hi!  As you know, I found sixth form really difficult (it's definitely different to GCSEs...) but I was so happy with my results.  I got an A in English Lit and a B in both Psychology and Philosophy - it was a lot of writing!  Over lockdown I started writing creatively again and reading a lot more, which has really been enjoyable.  I've decided to continue working at the garden centre for the next year, hopefully taking on more shifts, but ultimately I want to take it fairly easy.  I'd also like to do some more work experience at the infant school because I'm thinking about doing a nursing apprenticeship next year.

But what I really want to say is thank you so much to you and all of the teachers for your support and belief in me during my time at Maidenhill, especially in Year 11 - I loved my time there!

Hello, Charlotte here!

I am really excited about my future.  I've discovered an amazing CGI 3D Animation course at the University of South Wales and I start this week.  I want to pusue a career in Film CG animation/motion capture and aim to one day work abroad at one of the major VFX and animation studios such as WetaDigital, Framestore or Industrial Light and Magic...maybe all three!

More specifically, my art, maths and computer science lessons at school gave me a great foundation of skills and knowledge for my college course and for my understanding of CG animation.  Art especially continues to be a huge passion and hobby of mine... so, thank you!

I highly recommend my BTEC course at Cirencester College (Media Production) to any student who is thinking of pursuing a career in the film, TV or didital media industry.  I would like to highlight that the animation and VFX industry is a great industry to enter as there is a very broad range of skills needed from artists, mathematicians and scientists.  I am over the moon with my results (Triple Distinction*) and can't wait to take the next stages of my life.

Hi, Els here!

Firstly, I just wanted to say a massive thank you to you and all of the teachers who helped me through my 5 years at Maidenhill, always pushing me to do my best and helping me to achieve amazing results!  This was really the stepping stone I needed towards my future career and without your ongoing support and guidance, I wouldn't be in the position I am today.  Also, a very special thank you to Mrs. Ward who was always there for me throughout my time at Maidenhill.  I am so grateful for the opportunities you gave me as this really helped me to improve my confidence and develop as a person.  You really were the best community leader!

After finishing at Maidenhill, I went on to complete a level 3 Health and Social care course at Cirencester college and am so happy to tell you I achieved a Triple Distinction*, which is A-level equivalent to 3 A*s.  There were some tears (mainly at the sight of my 50 page assignment) and a lot of stress along the way, but it was all worth it in the end.  I am now going on to study Paediatric nursing at The University of the West of England (UWE) with my course commencing in a couple of weeks' time.  Charlotte and I are both moving in on the 19th of September ... eek!  At the moment I intend to qualify as a children's nurse, but once I have graduated, I have the option to specialise in other areas of children's nursing, but I'll see where my course takes me first.  I am so excited for what the future holds!

I hope this letter finds you well and we would love to hear back from you.

All the best

Betsey, Eleanor and Charlotte
