World Book Day

On 28th February, Carnegie Medal award-winning author, Tanya Landman, visited Maidenhill School.

Tanya regaled students with stories of how it eventually came about that she started writing.

“Historical fiction really appeals to me and Tanya Landman was funny and good at getting everyone involved,“ commented one student, while another noted: “Tanya has inspired me to write my own stories more often, to get more creative with ideas for stories and to plan stories carefully before you start writing a story”.

Tanya writes across the age and interest range; from murder mysteries to historical stories, based on real historical facts that intrigue her.  Her historical characters, in particular, show the real courage and resilience that those times demanded.  Our students too, are living through ‘history’ and by reading novels, can sometimes put their own experiences and emotions into perspective.’

Once again we are indebted to Stonehouse School Trustees for helping to fund this visit.
